1. Therapeutic Exercise:
Dogs exercising or playing more are associated with a lower muscle stiffness score (on par with the benefits of NSAIDs). Dogs of all ages can develop muscle stiffness; however, it is often ignored in younger dogs. This is more prevalent in seniors, working dogs, athletic and large breeds.
A good rule of thumb is to take your dog for a 10-minute walk 2 or 3 times a day rather than one long walk. As enthusiasm and action release adrenaline and endorphins, exercising dogs may feel less pain. Gently massaging your dog’s sore spots will increase blood flow. Applying alternating heat and cold to the stiffened areas can also be beneficial.
