Red Nose Pitbull – 15 Must Know Facts Before You Own The Breed

Dog Pregnancy Calculator And Timeline

There is, perhaps, no breed more controversial and misunderstood than the Pitbull Terrier. The responses about this dog range from ‘delights’ to downright fear!

People may evade the streets to stay away from one or walk across the street to ask if they can pet one. So do they deserve all this bad press?

It’s true that some Pitbulls have aggressive behavior, but the perplexing reaction of the animal is due to poor breeding methods of unscrupulous breeders, mislabeling, poor socialization, lack of training, and abuse.

And, the end result is that they’re perceived as unsafe. Not the breed as a whole but, some dogs indeed, the problem is with people and not with the pitiful Pitbulls…

Remember, the shrewd old kung fu master Mr. Miyagi in The Karate Kid film tells Daniel that there is “no such thing as a bad learner, only bad teacher.”

Then again, most of the Pitbull Terriers are supreme sweethearts. There are many Pitbulls who never lose their trust in humans even though they have been poorly raised (or poorly bred or abused).

Their story will be enough for you to turn on the waterworks. The Blue Nose Pitbull and Red Nose Pitbull are a variation of the American pitbull terrier. Are you wondering what a red-nose pitbull is?

The popular red-nose pit bull is just a pit bull that has a red nose, it is not a different breed of dog, and accordingly, it is not rare or high-priced as some devious breeders may want people to believe!

The red-nose and blue-nose are for the most part backyard breeders’ terminology. Having said that, Pitbulls with a red coat ranging from light honey red to deep red have become very popular and so is the associated red nose.

Red Nose Pitbull History

The red nose pitbull is a result of close inbreeding of the ‘Old Family’ strain of Pitbulls in the mid-1800s.

Red Nose Pitbull Bloodline

The Red Nose Pitbull breed is said to be a descendant of the bloodline: Old family red nose (OFRN) of Ireland, mainly in the counties of Kerry and Cork.

While it is also hard to trace the exact evolution of the red-nose trait, their breeding was kept a closely guarded secret using a small gene pool of dogs owned only by confidential acquaintances and family members.

This close breeding made it easy to pass on certain traits and so came along the red coat, red or amber eyes, red toenails, red lips, and the red nose.

The entire American Pitbull Terrier clan (including the Red Nose) was initially bred as combating dogs in dogfights and blood sports.

Thankfully, these most misunderstood canines have another purpose in recent times as watchdogs, home guardians, catch dogs, hunters, and family pets for Irish and English immigrants to America.

Remember that the Red Nose Pits are past their savage and callous beginnings and we now have an excellent pet.

What Does A Red Nose Pitbull Look Like?

Coat Color

Deep Red, Light Honey Red- With Patterns Of Cream Or White

The texture of the coat is short, shiny, stiff, and smooth to the touch. Long or curly or wavy coats are disqualifying faults.

Red Nose Pitbull Appearance

The Red nose Pitbull Terrier is a little more muscular than the regular American Pitbull Terrier (APBT).

Red guys are of medium size, agile, and athletic with a stocky build, short and smooth coat, and well-defined musculature.

The chiseled, bricklike, well-proportioned head exhibits the appearance of strength, elegance, and character while remaining proportioned to the body.

Oval to almond-shaped eyes are set far apart, low down in the skull, and are either red or amber.

They have distinctive red lips and red nose which is not actually red, but copper-red.

The body is somewhat longer than it is tall, whereas female dogs may be a bit longer in the body than males.

Red Nose Blue Nose Pitbull Mix

You will get a tall and busy dog if you mix the red nose and blue nose pitbull breeds. This dog is a good learner but not so like the red nose pitbull. It has a broader head than the red nose pitbull and shorter jaws.

Black Nose Pit

As the name indicates, this dog will have its nose in black color. But, the AKC standards favor this black-nosed pit.

Hawaiin Red Nose Pitbull

These dogs are none other than the red nose pitbull dogs that are bred in Hawaii. You can’t distinguish this dog as a breed.

Red Nose Pitbull Temperament

The red nose Pitbulls (let’s call them Red Pits) have taken a lot of flak from people for their temperament. Though, it does seem that this is not entirely well deserved.

You’ll be surprised to know that they are actually well behaved and don’t act over-aggressive to people, however, they are found to be much more likely than other dog types to attack other dogs.

They are strong, sturdy, energetic, and absolutely stunning – loving and adorable – it’s all in the eye of the beholder.

Red Nose Pitbull Personality

The American Red nose Pitbull is often misunderstood having received a bad rap over the years for aggressive behavior towards people.

However, The American Temperament Test Society, which has conducted a ten-step exam for temperament testing found that the Pitbulls were one of the most tolerant breeds.

Moreover, in a 2008 study on Breed Differences in Canine Aggression, APBT was found to be less aggressive towards their owners compared to some other breeds of dogs.

They are actually quite playful and pleasant. The breed’s natural aggressive tendencies are mainly towards other unfamiliar animals or pets. However, proper training and socialization methods will make them non-aggressive towards anyone.

They just love their pack- translation…Family. Reds serve homes with kids very ardently as they so effortlessly get attached to a family which in no time is obvious with the protective behavior and affection they have towards them.

These guys aren’t identified as being peaceful and laid-back to sit at home doing nothing. He loves being energetic and they will be at their best in an active household.

If you have plenty of time to spend with these intellectual and smart workers; they will be a sparkling, spirited addition to your family.

In general, they are delightful dogs who are a fierce helpmate, courageous in times of adversity.

Red Nose Pitbull Training

Red Nose Pitbull Training

How to train a Red Nose Pitbull?

In recent times, the term Pitbull has become nonspecific and can refer to any number of thickset, sturdy, short-haired dogs with a mixed heritage of Bulldog and Terrier.

The American Pitbull Terrier (APBT), conversely, is listed as a specific breed by the UKC in England, even if, they are not recognized by the AKC or the FCI.

In general, Pitbulls can be awfully unpredictable, in large part due to the large variety of breeds that may be involved; this is less true of a well-bred pure APBT due to the spotlight on a more passive and compliant temperament by responsible breeders.

Proper socialization and Obedience training are essential components for this dominant breed so as to help prevent apprehensive tendencies, aggressive behaviors towards other dogs, and dangerously overzealous greetings.

Despite the fact that he is an intense dog and motivated to learn, he needs a firm and consistent trainer or owner.  If he is not trained by the book, owners may find it quite hard to handle this dog as he gets older.

If you have time to spend on training, playing, and socializing with your dog, we can assure you that this is gonna be fun and you will never have a dull moment with this daunting guy.

Red Nose Pitbull Food

This dog needs high-level high quality-protein meat with low-grain type dog food. Avoid wheat, corn, or potatoes since these food types have allergens that can affect your pet.

Best food for Red Nose Pitbull

Choose foods that list whole meat as an ingredient rather than a by-product of grain. Whole meats include beef, chicken, lamb, and fish, while meat meals are just a concentrated form of meat lacking moisture.

Feed your Pitbull once or twice a day and ensure that during each meal, your pet meets its daily food and nutritional requirements.

What to feed a Red Nose Pitbull?

If you feed homemade dog food, then serve it in such a way that they are 2-4 percent of its total body weight.

Serve softened dry food for puppies two or three times a day. Once the pups are fully weaned, provide them with high-quality puppy food (for large breeds) two to three times a day.

Look for specific fat sources such as chicken fat which provide essential nutrients like omega-3 fatty acids to help keep the skin and coat healthy. in addition, they provide some necessary fat-soluble vitamins for better health.

High-quality Carbs provide your dog with energy for their daily metabolism but always keep the carb percentage low. The addition of nourishing carbs to a recipe, like sweet potatoes, is a healthy way to balance out protein and fat levels.

Red Nose Pitbull Care

Red Nose Pitbull Care

How to take care of a Red Nose Pitbull?

Say goodbye to the couch once you have a Red pit puppy.  In general, Red pits are quite a good choice for first-time dog owners as long as you get them when they are 4 to 8 weeks old.

They love to please their owners more than anything else and are also easily trainable.

Due to the Red Nose Pitbull’s short and flat hair, grooming is easy. Daily brushing using a fulminator slicker brush or a rubber curry brush is more than enough to straighten out the coat hair.

Brushing the dog’s fur maintains the natural sheen and keeps it healthy, and tangle-free.

Bath your dog only when it is absolutely needed. Use a good natural dog shampoo without any chemicals.

Make sure to rinse the Red Nose completely to remove all the shampoo and use a towel to dry off the dog.

Make sure that you check the Red nose pitbull’s body for signs of sores, hot spots, or scabs since these can be signs of infection. Also, trim the toenails if they get long enough.
